Course Syllabus 2021-2022
Rivera Early College High School – Mathematics Department
Welcome to Algebra II
Instructor: Mr. M. Flores Email: [email protected]
Room: D219 Phone: 831-8700
Conference Period: 2nd period (9:35 am – 10:15 am) Weebly: http://marflores.weebly.com
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Algebra II focuses on several areas of mathematics, involving all different kinds of factoring methods, applying the laws of exponents, and operations of radical expressions. Students will comprehend the attributes of the different functions in mathematics such as linear, quadratic, absolute value, square root, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions as well as the inverse relation/function of some of these, and they will solve equations involving expressions of these except absolute value equations. Analysis of the four different types of conic sections by comparing and contrasting their characteristics, then the analysis will focus on the attributes of each conic section introduced. Students will apply the knowledge of functions into real world problem solving and they will learn to use instructional technology equipment such as TI Graphing Calculators, Ti-Navigator system, Savvas Realize Algebra II, Khan Academy and computers to enhance their learning and help to ensure their academic achievement in the class.
This course will prepare your child for the Algebra II Exam (FINAL), which will permit students to achieve academic success and open the door towards High School graduation and Post secondary education.
DAILY STUDENT MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES:
To help your child excel, graphing calculators will be provided for class use only. The calculator is NOT A CRUTCH but a tool that will be used throughout the student's entire learning career. Students will be assigned a calculator, if and only if, student and parents have read, signed the proper form, and brought it back to the instructor.
